Description

Sharpless 188 (Sh 2-188).  I'm enchanted by this modest, quirky planetary nebula, sometimes called the Dolphin or the Shrimp,  located approximately 3,600 light-years away in Cassiopeia.  Its unusual shape is due to the central star's rapid travel through the interstellar medium, which brightens the arc of gas in the direction in which the star is traveling.

This version represents two nights' work: 1151 x 20 seconds for a total of about 6.3 hours of integration. (Captured: C6, Alt-Az, Hyperstar, ASI183MC Pro, Optolong L-Enhance filter. Processed: Photoshop, Star Xterminator, Gradient Xterminator, and Topaz DeNoise AI.)
