Description

From right after midnight all the way to dawn's early light I tested SharpCap Pro Live Stacking features with the Skywatcher ED50 paired to the ZWO ASI 178MM by imaging a small collection of DSOs.

While the scope has a focal length of just 250 mm, the 2.4um pixels of the 178MM render objects on picture as they would look with a Canon EOS 1300D (4.3um pixels)  paired with a 450 mm scope.

Darks and Flats were used.

It really taught me something.
One thing is that a full fledged stacking program like Astro Pixel Processor creates final images with less noise: I tried to livestack M101 (which I had already successfully imaged with the ED50 and the ZWO ASI 385MC OSC camera) but the result was so poor I had to drop it. However I still have to experiment with SharpCap Pro extra features against noise and banding, so a better result could be achievable.
Another thing is that I had also imaged M71, but I went on stacking pics when the sky was getting lighter shortly before 5 am and these were very noisy pics that spoiled the whole stack: with livestacking you cannot exclude bad pics and rerun!

Overall however the experience was very positive, considering also the small scope and the urban sky.

All final images have been post-processed to a moderate extent with StarTools, but the live view on the monitor was not much different.
