Description

Oct 5, 2022 - Jupiter TimeLapse

My favorite type of Astrophotography with fast moving targets is Time-Lapse, this year I purchased a Celestron 11" with an Alt-Az mount, it really works like a charm with Lunar and Planetary and it tracks really well.

Now with any mount, keeping a target in the middle of the field of view will require guiding, with DSO we autoguide on a star but with Planetary at least for me I've used FireCapture Autoguiding feature which works amazing of keeping a certain feature in the same field of view, I am not going to explain it as you can google (FireCapture Autoguiding) and you will know how awesome it is.

Now with Alt-Az mount this feature unfortunately doesn't work at all, and I tried to find any post or article that explains how it works without any luck until few friends suggested to get a Wedge and mainly convert the Alt-Az mount to an EQ mount, and bingo that fixed the problem, FC autoguiding worked flawlessly, and as a test I was able to capture Jupiter for 2 hours without babysitting the mount.

This timelapse was created from 57x1500 frames video with 2min delay in between, each video was stacked in AutoStakkert3, Processed and sharpened with Astrosurface and Pixinsight and final video was created in PIPP ... I hope you like it.
