The iconic interacting galaxy pair, NGC 4038/4039 (Antennae Galaxies) located in the constellation Corvus. With lots of star formation and giant tidal tails, the Antennae provides one the most spectacular examples of the close galactic interaction. This peculiar galaxy pair was included as object Arp 244 in the Atlas of Peculiar Galaxies by Halton Arp .

This LRGB image of the Antennae uses the data collected over February-March 2024 with my mobile setup: the 250mm f4 Lacerta PhotoNewton and ZWO ASI294MM Pro and ASI2600MM Pro cameras on the Orion HDX-110 EQ-G mount. The NGC 4038/4039 pair proved to be a difficult target to image considering its low position in the sky (it culminates at ~35 degrees) and less than ideal atmospheric conditions. A combination of different exposure lengths and additional processing with RC Blur Exterminator were used to counter the effect of poor seeing and get better galaxy detail. The luminance data was collected with ZWO ASI294MM Pro camera (90s and 300s exposure, Gain 0 and 108) and RGB color exposures were collected with ZWO ASI2600MM Pro camera (180s exposure time, Gain 100):

L: 13x300s (Gain 0, bin 1x1), 162x90s (Gain 108, bin 1x1) [ASI294MM Pro]
R: 48x180s (Gain 100, bin 1x1) [ASI2600MM Pro]
G: 39x180s (Gain 100, bin 1x1) [ASI2600MM Pro]
B: 40x180s (Gain 100, bin 1x1) [ASI2600MM Pro]

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
