Description

M42 - The Orion Nebula, also known as NGC-1976, is a diffuse nebula in the Orion constellation. It's about 1300 light years from earth. If you know where to find Orion's belt, the nebula is to the south. The image contains many other objects - you can see them by hovering - including the Running Man Nebula (NGC-1977) on the left hand side of the image. The extremely bright open cluster is known as the Trapezium. The final image was made from 2 sets of lights. The main set comprises 36 images, each exposed for 1 minute. The second set is made of 33 lights, each exposed for 5 secs. The 5-second set was used to process the Trapezium so that it wasn't totally blown out in the image.
