Description

Here is the N11 Bean Nebula and surrounding emission nebula in the outskirts of the Large Magellanic Cloud which, we in the Southern Hemishpere can get a good look at all year round. It hosts a bucket-load of new-star activity. Lots of Ha and OIII data from this target. Of particular interest is the little tadpole-like nebula above the main body of gas and dust. This is the supernova remnant N11L (SNR 0454-66.5) which has an estimated linear diameter of 1 pc (~3.26 LY). The estimated age for this remnant is 15,000 years and it is expanding at approx. 200 km per sec. The breakout features in the expanding shell, seen from our orientation, make it look like a tadpole.
