Description

Globular clusters are interesting things in our night sky. They are tight knit globes of stars that are as old as our galaxy itself and  surround the Milky Way like bees around a hive. This is the Great Hercules Cluster and is the biggest cluster seen in our northern skies with 100,000 stars packed together. At the center of this cluster, stars orbit so closely that they collide which lead to the creation of new stars, the blue ones. All these stars contain no heavy elements, so astronomers know they formed early in the universe before time allowed other giant stars to produce heavy metals and explode seeding the galaxy with rich elements.
