Astrophotography 2022

Description

Astrophotography 2022
--------------------------------------
A collage of my published images for the calendar year 2022. A very satisfactory result given the amount of rain and cloudy nights we've had on the east coast of Oz for 2022. It does help having two separate imaging systems with my QSI683 Camera/TSA120 OTA combination giving a medium field of view (1.5d x 1.0d) and the ASI6200 Camera/Canon 200mm lens combination giving a wide field of view (10d x 7d). Having both systems running simultaneously on a clear night is a real bonus. A happy and productive New Year to everyone.

A brief description of each image follows (click on name for link to published image).
  • Cederblad 122. A large area of nebulosity located near the Southern Cross (Crux).
  • Cone Nebula. A distinctive nebula located in the constellation of Monoceros.
  • NGC 55. A barred spiral galaxy located in the constellation of Sculptor about 6.5 million light years from Earth.
  • NGC 2004. An area of nebulosity surrounding the globular cluster NGC2004 and rich in Hydrogen Alpha (Ha) and Oxygen III.
  • Cometary Globule CG12. A cloud of dust and gas located in the constellation of Centaurus approximately 2,200 light years away.
  • RHO Ophiuchus Cloud Complex. A bright and colourful area of gas and dust traversing the constellations of Ophiuchus and Scorpius.
  • NGC6188. A widefield image of gas and dust in the constellation of ARA.
  • Orion Widefield. A ten degree field of view image capturing the magnificence of the great Orion nebula and surrounding areas.
