Description

This is Hickson-69. The Hickson galaxy groups were cataloged by Paul Hickson, a Canadian astronomer, in the 1980s and are notable for having strong gravitational interactions between their members, causing the galaxies to distort, produce high levels of infrared and radio transmissions, and lots of new stars. If you look at the full size image, you’ll see about 50 galaxies: some face-on, some edge-on, a few distorted, some with hydrogen-rich rings and cores, etc.=x193iq5w xeuugli x13faqbe x1vvkbs x1xmvt09 x1lliihq x1s928wv xhkezso x1gmr53x x1cpjm7i x1fgarty x1943h6x xudqn12 x3x7a5m x1f6kntn xvq8zen xo1l8bm xzsf02u x1yc453h (the reddish features in the galaxies, captured with about 90 minutes of HA). The nearest are probably 250 million light-years distant, but some are probably a billion or so light-years away.
