Description

Helix Nebula NGC7293 (Eye of God)

8 hours and a half of exposure (171 pictures in total) in the nights between 20th, 21st and 25th of August 2023.
Discovered in 1842 by Karl Ludwig Harding, is the closest planetary nebula to earth.
It has been generated by the expulsion of external layers of gas of a star similar to our Sun at the end of it's life.
Now the nebula is visible because such gases are ionized by the radiated emission of that star that is now a white darft (star it's well visible at the center of the nebula).
It's a very hard subject to be captured from North east of Italy due to it's very low position over the orizon (25° max): and so details, confused by the light pollution, are not so nice as for other objects captured at the zenit.
Nevertheless, the incomparable fascination of this cloud of gases reminding the shape of a human (or divine) eye, leave you speachless independently of the quality of the result...
