Description

This Vespera 1 field of view shows 31 Comae Berenices, the "Polaris of the North Galactic Pole," and binary star HD 112313 (variable star designation IN Comae Berenices), the central star of the LoTr 5 planetary nebula*, the closest known planetary nebula to the NGP.

"The beauty of these two markers (31 Comae Berenices for NGP and Alpha Sculptor is for SGP) is that they show where the Galactic view is clearest, the direction with the least amount of Milky Way dust, where the lack of obscuration reveals a myriad of myriads of external galaxies."

"These objects (in the constellation Coma Berenices) can be seen with minimal obscuration by dust because the constellation is not in the direction of the galactic plane."

This Vespera tiff was edited with PixInsight and Photoshop.
