Description

This is my first Southern Hemisphere image.  I’m in the Atacama Desert in Northern Chile — finally, after 2 years of planning and COVID-related cancellations.  The Atacama Desert is one of the best places for astro-imaging due its high altitude (I’m at 8,800’), arid climate (less than 1” of rain annually), and dark skies.  As bad luck would have it, it is unusually cloudy and hazy this week, but I should still get several good nights of imaging.

This is my first of two images on night 1 — no clouds but relatively poor seeing led to big fuzzy stars.
