Description

Mars one hour after sunset on 14 Jan 2023.

Observed Mars in conditions unusual to Canberra - a hot and humid evening. Seeing was again very variable due to high level cloud passing over the planet. First capture of the session proved to be the best with later recordings rapidly decreasing in quality.

Mars has noticeably shrunk in size and now displays a strong phase on the F limb. Tongue of Sinus Sabaeus is on view here with North Polar hood still prominent while clouds begin to form at the opposite pole. Yellowish Hellas Basin is rising in the south-east and Mare Erythraeum appears dusty in the west.
