Description

Two marvels of the southern sky, which I can hardly photograph in Estonia: these nebulas culminate just a bit higher than 5° above the horizon during the so-called summer "white nights", making them entirely unsuitable for deep-sky astrophotography. Therefore, I began collecting light for this image precisely a year ago during my vacation in Crete, under Bortle 3 skies. It's been a busy year, and I had limited free time to process the images I captured there. I am thrilled to have finally completed this project, which also served as the first light for my TS102F7 APO on a deep sky target. More captivating data awaits processing. However, I am heading to Crete again tomorrow, and this time I plan to primarily focus on planetary imaging.

The image is a mosaic of 2 panels, each capturing M20 and M8 separately. Taken with ZWO ASI2600MC Pro (gain 100, 0°C, bin 1x1). Processed and stacked in PixInsight: 49x2 min for M8 and 54x2 min for M20. The final touch was made in Photoshop 2023. Size is at 80%. The data was captured on 29-31 August 2022, using ASIAIR Pro and N.I.N.A on one of those nights.
