Description

This is a rarely imaged nebula that is poorly known due to its weak structure and therefore difficult to photograph. Here is a HSS rendition with RGB stars.
BBW56 is a large molecular cloud in the Gum Nebula (Gum 12), in the southern constellation of Puppis. It is surrounded by 9 cometary globules, including the famous CG4 "Cosmic Monster", and is likely to have been shaped by a similar process to these adjacent CGs.
BBW56 is one of 400 objects catalogued by Brand, Blitz and Wouterloot (catalogue established in 1986). As Brand, Blitz and Wouterloot researched the southern sky they catalogue various objects. Many of these objects are lesser known perhaps due to being extremely faint.
