Description

Abell 5 (AKA PK141-7.1) is a Planetary Nebula in the constellation Perseus. It is very dim at magnitude 16.0.  It is not often imaged and very little information is available on the web.  Ha provides the most information, O3 is very small.  The PN is circular with an open center and a diameter of 2.3 arcminutes.

The nebula photo is a combination of HOO, the stars are 100% Ha for red, 50% Ha and 50% O3 for green and 100% O3 for blue.  RGB stars would be more attractive and I may incorporate them later as a revision.

Just wanted to see how the equipment would perform with the magnitude 16 image at my Bortle 6 location.  Taken at bin 2x2, stacked and drizzled at both level 2 and level 3 (as an experiment).  Level 3 provided a slightly smoother image so that is the one presented.  Excessive crop was required to stretch the 620 mm RASA 11 photo to a presentable size.

I am constantly impressed with the light gathering ability of the RASA and was satisfied with the results of this experiment (although my newbie experience is limited to this scope design only, with nothing else to compare it to).
