Description

I started shooting this target on our recent RV trip to Borrego Springs, California and finished it up at home. I was happy to be able to frame it with the Little Rosette and Sh2-173.

Title: The Croman-Terpe-Brecher-Paulyman Version in Foraxx

Description: I was never happy with the way this one came out. I struggled with the gradients, which were all over the place because this was shot in several different places under dramatically varying skies. I had really struggled with DBE. But then I tried it with GraXpert, which seemed to do a much better job than my manual attempts with DBE. BXT really helped with the stars in the correct-only mode. Then I just used a very light hand with deconvolution. Of course, as always, I applied techniques I learned from Ron Brecher. Finally, one of the things I disliked about previous efforts was that SHO made Abell 85 look unnatural. But HOO robbed the Little Rosette and Phantom of their full palettes. Foraxx was the trick, providing a more natural look to the Balloon while giving nice chromatic variation to the other parts of the image.
