Description

An HII region in Monoceros lying 5200 light-years distant, the Rosette Nebula is estimated to be ~130 light-years wide and contains ~10K solar masses of material.   The immediate region contains 5 different NGC designations.   The central star cluster is NGC 2244.   The hollowed out core of the nebula is primarily due to 2 giant O type stars which generate sufficient energy to heat the surrounding material to X-ray temperatures and cause extreme solar winds.   The star cluster is on the order of 2 million years young.   Star forming is actively occurring around the nebula.

This is the first light image taken with a new ASI2600mcPro camera.   It allows for a larger field than my go-to ASI183mcPro.   There are a few quirks that I will need to adjust for in future images, but this image is good enough for a start.
