Description

This is a first light image for my new used QHY294M Pro camera. Although it uses the same sensor as my ZWO ASI 294M Pro, both cameras are quite different if it comes to the settings. Sadly, I realized too late, that bin 2 on the QHY is like bin 3 on the ZWO. I saw some strange effects while looking at the subs, but I took me until I processed the final image to realize the problem. With a focal length of 632mm, I am quite undersampled with this image. Thats sad.

Anyway, the data came out really nice for what it is. Over a span of 5 nights I was able to collect 34 hours of data. It was really cold outside. We had temperatures down to -19 degrees Celsius but the equipment and the scope worked abolutely fine. The cooler was running at 0% power for the whole night. I had to run the lens heaters even during the days, to prevent ice forming on the metal parts and the lenses and this way stay able to use the scope until the weather was cloudy again. Luckily, it was a quite dry cold and the air quality seemed to be really good.

I decided to go for the HSO palette, because the red and yellow colors fits the name of the object quite nicely. The Ha signal is strong as usual. Sulfur is surprisingly bright as well. The OII data is really faint and only visible in the center of the bright nebula. I would have  preferred to have the rest of the nebula (upper left corner) in the fram as well, but the focal length even with the reducer was too long and my shorter scope was set up for another target. But it's ok for me. Processing wise, I realized how to set up SPCC in PI for my narrowband filters and the Sony sensor. This way, my stars are quite neutral in color for a narrowband image - something new to me and lesson learned.

After the second night, I put on a Wanderer Mini Rotator that I bought about 4 weeks ago. It is really helpful and I may invest in some more rotators for my other scopes as well.
