Description

An LRGB composite image of the 11 day gibbous moon captured using my DSI III pro and RGB filters. L data were taken through my 7nm Ha filter. Images were automatically stacked in Meade Envisage with a medium edge filter applied after 10 frames. A 75% quality filter was applied to the Ha data (30 frames) and 50% to RGB frames (10 each). Stacks were aligned in Nebulosity, processed in Startools with rotation, gentle sharpening, deconvolution, and colour composition. The final image is a mosaic of two frames for each LRGB channel, stitched prior to processing in Microsoft ICE.

There are too many topographical details to identify, but I do like this lunar phase as it highlights the mare and ejecta rays, without losing all the relief in the larger craters and lunar highlands. I'm pleased with the soft 'natural' colour (but we all know how this changes dependent on altitude, seeing, our eyesight and personal preference). I've included the monochrome L frames taken through my 7nm Ha filter in the mouse over.

For those interested in exploring the features further, I recommend Patrick Chevalley and Christian Legrand's excellent 'virtual moon atlas' for PC or Michael Howard's 'Moon Globe HD' for iPad.
