Description

Located nearly 9K light-years away, this complex nebula region in the Perseus arm of our galaxy contains dust, gas, reflection and mostly emission nebula.   The nebula resembles the mask in the play Phantom of the Opera.   It's a creepy similarity!    The region is on the order of 80 light-years wide.

In this OSC view of the object, I've elected to NOT remove most of the stars from the image.   IMO, too many of the Astrobin images of this object have removed too much of the internals of the object to show the mask, with the result that the full complexity of the region is affected.   This image has a bit of everything in it, and you can still make out the mask.   I hope you like it.   The Phantom is a worthy post-processing object; it doesn't give up details easily!
