Description

After several days of frustration due to clouds and horrible seeing, I finally got lucky on the most important night of all, the closest Jupiter and Saturn will be for quite some time to come! The clouds cleared and the seeing improved somewhat. Using my 10 inch Newtonian at prime focus, I acquired a decent amount of video footage. Through lucky capture of Jupiter's disk from 2% of 6000 video frames at 3ms each, Saturn's disk from 2% of 3000 video frames at 26ms and a hand selected pick of the litter of the planets' moons from a video composed of 400ms exposures, I was able to get appropriately exposed images of each of these targets. I used Photoshop to sharpen and composite the images through masking into a final scene. Now that I have captured the conjunction as best I could, I'm looking forward to a little relaxation!
