Description

After my northern lights app reported high visibility yesterday evening, I lay in wait with my camera and looked spellbound to the north. Only a month ago I had seen my very first aurora near the horizon. Nothing could be seen over the horizon, however. Switching the camera, I happened to look up and spotted a grey, greenish shimmering cloud that seemed to be moving directly above me. The first photo brought certainty: yes, a beautiful northern light at the zenith! I chose a suitable section and took a series of 30 pictures of 2 seconds each with a 3 second break in between until the approaching cloud cover ended the spectacle. The sequence lasts 4 minutes in total. From this series of images I created this little animation (19 MB), which reflects the experience much better than a single photo.
I hope you like it!

P.S.: It is frightening how many satellite tracks can be seen, most of them probably come from Starlink.
