Description

IC 10 is an irregular galaxy located in Cassiopea constellation, in a field rich in stars.
Its angular size is 6.8'x5.9' and the estimated distance from the Milky Way is only 2.1 million of light years: so it can be considered belonging to the Local Group, together with Andromeda Galaxy M 31 and Triangulum Galaxy M 33.
IC 10 has an absolute size of only 5600 light years, so it is a dwarf irregular galaxy: it is also referred to as Starburst Galaxy due to its high rate of new star formation.
In the image are well visible the dust structures and several HII regions.
