Description

After having almost 2 months of cloudy sky, nature gave me 3 consecutive nights of clear sky to capture M42 and M43 in Orion like never before.
This is an image composed of 3 narrowband signals integrated in SHO Hubble palette using PixInsight.

Equipment: Celestron EdgeHD 8" @ 1422mm (F/7) + ZWO ASI2600mm (mono)
Filters: Narrowband Ha, OIII, SII. 3nm bandpass
Location: Riobamba, Ecuador. Bortle 5-6. (aprox 1.7 S latitude), during full moon.
Process: PixInsight. Color combination on Hubble SHO palette (Red=SII, Green=Ha, Blue=OIII).
Lights: 180 mins integration time per filter 9-hour total integration time. January 24th, 25th and 26th 2024.
Other: 30 darks, 50 flats and darkflats per filter and session.

Title: M42 / M43 in Orion - 3-color Narrowband + RGB stars

Description: M42 in Orion

Image captured in narrowband and broadband:

Narrowband: Narrowband integration of 3 components Sii, Ha, and Oiii with 3nm filters. SHO/Hubble palette combination. 180 mins perr filter.

Broadband: Natural-colored stars using R, G an B filters. 30-min integration time per filter.

Captured using a Celestron EdgeHD 8" @1422mm (F/7). ZWO ASI2600MM mono camera. Bortle 5-6 class sky. 4 non-consecutive nights (Jan 24, 25, 26 and 29, 2024). Full moon for narrowband. Waning gibbous moon for RGB. Captured with NINA and PHD2.

Processsed in Pixinsight. Seprate processing of nebula and stars, finally keeping the nebula (narrowband) and stars (broadband).
