Description

I think this is a fascinating target. I captured this last year with a 127mm refractor, this time I went after it with my 8" mak/newt, next I may try my 11" SC.  In 2 night I got 8 hours that I added with the 8 hours from last year.  Captured another decent sized galaxy (lower left NGC 4027) which is a barred spiral galaxy 77 million light years away.  You can also see, PGC 37910 (below and to the left), which is a spiral galaxy about 79 million light years away, plus several other PGC galaxies.

I also added a cropped version of just the Antennae Galaxies.

This is 2 interacting galaxies (NGC 4038 & 4039) were discovered in 1785 and originally thought to be a planetary nebula.  These galaxies are about 63 million light years away.  It is estimated that the collision of these 2 galaxies happened about 600 million year ago. The ejected stars which create the 2 antennae span around 360,000 light years across.

Description: Light stretched in APP, stars extracted in PI, PI generalized stretch, touch up in PS. I think the galaxy, stars and background look better on this image, but the Antennae's a not bright and noticeable. Always a fine line on how hard to stretch and push the image.
