Description

NGC6888 is an emission nebula in the constellation of Cygnus and is located about 5000 light years away and about 25 light years across. It is formed by the solar winds of the Wolf-Rayet star, WR136, colliding with the gasses ejected by by the star when it became a red giant hundreds of thousand of years ago. It has produced two shock waves, one moving inward with its energy creating x-ray emissions and one moving outward creating an outer shell. This is a fairly dim object and almost invisible without the aid of Hydrogen Alpha and Oxygen III filters which make the object appear to pop out of the background as seen here.
