Description

Usually considered a DSO of the Southern Hemisphere, the Pencil Nebula is observable from lower latitudes in the Northern Hemisphere as well. I traveled to a dark site at  N 24° with an elevation of 2300m and open view to the south to shoot the image.  The highest altitude The nebula can reach is 19°.  I managed to shoot for 3 hours before dawn. The prototype 0.79x "super reducer" for FLT132 that was loaned to me by William Optics really brought out the details of the fine filaments of the supernova remnant. And of course many thanks to Russell Croman's new AI4 for the amazing BlurXTerminator, too. While I don't think it's going to win any awards, I am happy to be able to unlock the achievement.
