Description

This planetary nebula, also known as PN G114.0-04.6, is located 6500 light years away in the constellation of Cassiopeia at a declination of +57 degrees.  This magnitude 13 PN spans 1.7 arc-minutes in our apparent view, which corresponds to a diameter of 3.2 light years.

It looks like we are seeing the bi-polar PN from a side view.  The polar axis runs from upper left to lower right.  The strongest signals of the nebula outline the torus section which is constricting the bi-polar flow towards each end.  I don’t see a star which resembles the source star.

This object is strikingly similar to M27.  A comparison image is attached in Revision C, where I have tried to match the brightness levels of these 2 objects.    That is not easy since M27 is 10 times bigger and 100 times brighter to us than Abell 82.  Note the similarity of the “butterfly” type section across the center of each nebula, as well as the expanding sections at each end of the bi-polar flow of each object.
