IC5146 - Dusty Cocoon Nebula

I had not been imaging for over three years with all that was going on at work, COVID, my kid going off to college. In the meantime, I bought and sold a lot of gear - out with the PW12.5, the AP1200 and a bunch of other stuff. In with a Takahashi TOA-150, an AP1600 mount w/encoders. And while the camera is still the venerable QHY600, I need to get adapters to fit the back of the scope. In the meantime, John K., as part of sale of his TOA-150 to me, agreed to loan his FLI 814M w/Astrodon filters till I get the adapter situation sorted out.

Another thing, I had been out of commission for so long I had completely forgotten how to use PixInsight. The tool has progressed so much with a lot of folks contributing to make it even better. I am grateful to the folks for ensuring the WBBP script is top notch now. I also found Russell Croman's RC Tools a great help. I relearned a lot of stuff as well!

So, between work, cloudy nights, new equipment, and having to relearn how to process in PixInsight, here is IC 5146 - with plenty of dusty lanes around the Cocoon Nebula. I will improve this image as I find more time. This is a quick "throw all subs in the hopper and see what comes out" image. I am in awe of the data so far, but I also know that this may be the last of the data with this particular imaging train. I should have all the adapters by the end of this month and a trip to the remote observatory will beacon at that time to get the QHY600 on the back of this scope. That should give me a wider FOV while keeping the resolution very similar.

Submitted The date and time when you submitted this image for IOTD/TP consideration.	...
Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
