Description

M51 is a pair of interacting galaxies located in the constellation Canes Venatici. Discovered in 1773 by Charles Messier, M51 is the first spiral "nebula" identified. Later, Edwin Hubble was able to observe Cepheid variables within the galaxy, proving that these were not nebula located in our own galaxy but distance galaxies.
