New to astronomy and astrophotography both. Got my first scope, the NexStar 102SLT, Oct 2016 to enjoy with the family. Love the quick, lightweight grab and go aspect of this scope for spontaneous viewing and still happy with this as a starter set-up.
While I realize this scope/mount is not strictly intended for AP... had to try, and was hooked, liked so many others, after that first not so good shot of M42 (since improved upon). Amazing how much additional detail can be revealed with such a modest setup. Been working within the constraints of this setup to learn some aspects of acquisition and processing, typically only keeping ~20-50% of subs. Tying a 1.5lb dive weight to the front of the scope helped since I can't slide it forward enough on the short rail to balance the camera.
Much to learn still, but thought I would go ahead and contribute to this site as I have learned so much from being able to see the wide range results from amateurs and experts alike across a wide range of equipment.
All of the pics so far have been from my dark red zone back yard, but a little better looking east toward an orange zone. Looking forward to getting out somewhere darker eventually and to continuing deeper down the rabbit hole of AP!
