I received a surprise 50 mm telescope for my eleventh birthday. In hindsight it had awesomely bad optics on a shaky mount. But when I saw Saturn's ring - I was hooked.
Today I image with thankfully much better equipment from a bortle 4 location (and yes - I still have my 50 mm). My present goal is to start projects accumulating multiple nights of photon collecting on the same object.
