M101 Pinwheel Galaxy NGC5457 - Combined data from 4-26-20 and 5-8-2021 Processing experiment combining R HaGB

(using the R as luminance - I don't remember who recommended this method, but I liked the results)

M101 is a large galaxy, with a diameter of 170,000 light-years. By comparison, the Milky Way has a diameter of 100,000 light-years. It has around a trillion stars, twice the number in the Milky Way. It has a disk mass on the order of 100 billion solar masses, along with a small central bulge of about 3 billion solar masses. Its characteristics can be compared to those of Andromeda Galaxy. Description: Use Pixelmath to extract Ha and combine into R channel. Extracted luminance from the HaRGB and reinserted it as LHaRGB.

Description: Nice warm evening to do some experimenting (learning) with the new Sharpcap program. Finally got things working & took new RGB data on M101 at Bin2. Took 13 X 60 R, 20 X 60 G, and 20 X 60 B. Combined them with the Ha data 23 X 220 taken at Bin 1 on the May 8, 2021 image. Processed the data into a HaLRGB configuration.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
