NGC 4651 in LRGB

My take on the "Umbrella" Galaxy. A close look though shows me that this is more a complete ring around it, very faint in some spots, I have to admit. Since I knew that this was a challenge I decided to take as many 5 minute exposures with the CLS CCD filter as Lum as I could. Not sure if this paid off as I hoped for, the signals between the 2 minute RGB and the 5 minute Lum images was not as significant as I hoped for.

This image was taken with the flattener only, no 2x Powermate in the game, but at 1x1. Would be nice to have a direct comparison, did not manage to get it done though. Next year I might target it again, the adapter for the 2x is on the way, and then I have a solid "screwed" train with it. I will try to manage the Filter Wheel with this setup then as well, theoretically it should work, but as with a lot of things, the best is to try and see.

Right now I actually favor the images with the 2x, it seems that I get some more detail out of the galaxies, and the loss of signal due to the f/14 setup did not seem to matter that much (ok, no comparison to images taken with an SCT).

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
