Description

IC 1396, known as the "Elephant Trunk" nebula. It's a cloud of dark gas (that looks like an elephant's trunk) in front of another cloud of starlight gas. This is thought to be the birthplace of several young — less than 100,000 years — new stars.

I shot this January 3 & 4, and just got around to processing it. Where I live, we won't see this nebula again until the Summer.

Processing
1. WeightedBatchProcessing to calibrate, register, and integrate
2. Drizzle Integration
3. Dynamic Crop
4. EZ Denoise
5. StarXTerminator on the linear image

Starless
1. Arcsinhstretch
2. CloneStamp to clean up SII artifacts (StarXTerminator did really well on Ha and OIII)
3. PixelMath to combine a narrowband mix: traditional SHO
4. SCNR
5. Invert & SCNR again to remove Magenta cast
6. Apply Ha as L using LRGBCombination
7. CurvesTransformation
8. Topaz Denoise AI

Stars
1. LinearFit Ha and SII to OIII
2. ChannelCombination
3. SCNR
4. HistogramTransformation

Combination
1. PixelMath: 1-((1-SHO)*(1-stars))
