This was a fun project, especially with me typing the wrong coordinates for the first night as I attempted to capture this target. Inadvertently type/captured the cluster on Barnard's loop instead. I tried to make lemonade form lemons and create a 4 panel mosaic of this area along with M78, but that effort fell prey to 75% moon and low on the horizon. You can see my lack luster attempt in Image B.

Once I finally got the correct coordinates, I was able to devote 3 hours with the OSC to this fantastic formation before moon rise. I especially enjoy the the dark dusty region as it comes into contact with the hydrogen front. I find the bright reflection nebula at the top of the formation to be quite intriguing with the very young bright star. Additionally, all the Ha data is remarkable for a OSC color image and the dusty cometary tail of the nebula mix through out it. I couldn't decide what orientation I preferred most, but I decided at least initial on the 180 degree rotation.

LDN 1622 is a dark / dusty nebula in the constellation of Orion approximately 1500 light years from Earth. The main portion of the formation is roughly 40 light years across

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
