Description

Here's a close-up view of NGC 7129, the Rosebud nebula.   It's a star cluster and reflection nebula with some high energy components mixed in for good measure.   The stars in the bubble have blown a hole in the surrounding gas.  The energy levels from the bright young stars are sufficiently high to cause shock wave ionization of hydrogen gas further out in the nebula.   Those red objects are Herbig-Haro objects.  There's plenty of dust and gas visible in the extended field.   The star cluster is ~3K light years distant and contains 130 stars.   Most if not all of the stars are less than 1 million years old.
