I've been intending to image this area in Cepheus for some time now and finally got round to collecting enough data to produce a presentable image. The Ha emissions are strong so I decided to combine with RGB. The Ha data with my 3nm Antlia filter is very clean considering the moon was full but the RGB data was a bit of a mess with horrendous gradients, especially the Blue and Green. I persisted with the edit, using APP to remove the gradients, initially in the mono stacks and then in the combined stack , and managed to get a result which is OK. If I do get the chance I will reshoot the RGB subs with no moon to see how much I can improve the result.

Title: GradientCorrection

Description: Reprocessed with Pixinsight's new GradientCorrection process. I chose this as a good example of bad gradients, particularly in the Green channel. With a little trial and error I got a much better result than with the traditional gradient removal tools which allowed me to enhance the subtle dust in the background which was completely lost in my previous revisions. I also used Juergen Terpe's ContinuumSubtraction script to make better use of the Hydrogen Alpha channel.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
