Description

"THE FLAMINGSTAR NEBULA"
- Deepsky 1503mmmm LRGBhA
- Area Constellation Auriga

IC 405, also known as the Flaming Star Nebula, is a diffuse nebula in the constellation of Auriga in the northern starry sky and is an estimated 1600 light years away from the solar system.
The bright star Auriga AE, in the blue nebula construct, is so hot that it glows blue, giving the nebula its blue glow. The surrounding reflection and emission nebulae are ionized by its UV radiation and are thus recombined to form the typical H-alpha radiation in its striking red. The dust in the nebular region also reflects the star's light and shimmers bluish. AE Auriga is a runaway star, as it moves very quickly through the surrounding interstellar matter
The object was discovered on March 21, 1892 by the German-American astronomer John Martin Schaeberle.
