Description

This Astrobin Debut Object is a beautiful barred ring spiral galaxy located 230 million light years away in the constellation of Triangulum at a declination of +31 degrees.  It is a magnitude 13.5 galaxy which spans 2 arc-minutes in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a large diameter of 150,000 light years.

As with many long barred galaxies, bright ansae are seen at each end of the bar.  A pseudo-ring encircles the bar.  Extending from end of each bar, in opposite directions, is a short segmented star stream arm.   Each arm quickly transitions into a wide diffuse stream that expands into the outer disk.   I don’t remember seeing galaxy arms quite like this before.

Several small bright regions in the disk could be dwarf companions.
