The nebula NGC 3247 lies in the upper left, and to the right of the center, the open cluster IC 2581 resides. The nebula running down the center of the image does not have a separate name, or, at least, PixInsight doesn’t know it.

If rendered in RGB, this is a bland field of red. Ha dominates almost the entire field with little being heard from SII or OIII, at least in a balanced image. Having an aversion to the Hubble palette—that finger-in-the-eye color monstrosity, and most false-color images, I went a different way. I extracted the line contribution to the Ha image by solving a trio of simultaneous equations involving R, Ha, and SIII. The resulting Ha-line tends to display the maximum structure of any components in the fov. The structure present in this image would not wow anybody, so I decided to see if putting colored stars back into the (starless) Ha-line image would add some interest. Well, maybe it did something, artwise, but I’m not wild about it.
