Description

Whirling Dervish Nebula

This image shows the amazing intricacies of the vast stellar nursery, also known as the Whirling Dervish Nebula. At its center lies a giant cluster of young stars Westerlund 2 which is about 6 to 13 light years across and contains some 3,000 stars. Its estimated age is only 2 million years. The cluster and the nebula lie in the direction of the southern constellation Carina, at an approximate distance of 20,000 light years from Earth.

Processing;

I processed this image first as HaRGB then added another layer of Ha (as Luminance) and removed small stars to enhance the red nebulosity.
