Description

M16 is not a very suitable target for my location.  It's low in the south hidden in the town light dome and barely high enough in the sky to clear some tall oak trees, for part of the night, in my backyard.  But I've always wanted to image it for the "Pillars of Creation".  I considered going long focal length with my SCT but with only windows of opportunity I decided a refractor would be less frustrating.  Also, the speed of a reduced refractor with narrow band was helpful.  Had a few thin high clouds wandering in and out of the FOV, but over several nights managed almost 21 hours of data with a little more than half in SHO,  the rest in RGB was not suitable data but good enough for the stars.  Overall it turned out okay,  I'm satisfied with the image and glad I finally captured the Pillars.
