Description

4h40min of integral Ha exposure of NGC 346 star cluster [1, 2] and associated N66 HII region [3, 4] (150 pc in diameter located at a distance of about 62 kpc as per estimates given in [3, 4]) of the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC) - captured remotely using Telescope #3 (ASA-N D = 0.5m f/3.8, FLI ProLine 16803) system of ChileScope during 4 imaging sessions carried out on Dec 29 & 30, 2023, Jan 1 & 5, 2024.

Partial star suppression is applied. Lots of fine structure details are recovered here, especially in the version with full star suppression (revision B).

A recent image image of this target obtained with JWST (MIRI) is available under [5, 6].

Also this wide-angle HaRGB image produced with Wide Field Imager instrument at the 2.2-metre MPG/ESO telescope at the La Silla Observatory in Chile is rather impressive as well [7, 8].

There also exists an absolutely stunning Ha image of the central part of N66 region by the HST ACS/WFC [9, 10].
