Description

The Star S Monocerotis is a bright spectroscopic double and variable star 2300 light years away. The surrounding molecular cloud is being shaped by the stellar winds from S Mon, and there are numerous arcuate and intriguing features in the ionised hydrogen clouds, including the Cone nebula to the left, the foxfur below, as well as large sclae shock fronts visible in the hydrogen gas.
This was the first light image for the QSI6162 camera in my observatory, haveing just undergone a major refurbishment.
