Description

M86 (NGC4406) - Giant Lenticular Galaxy in Constellation Virgo.

At the heart of the Virgo Galaxy Cluster - which contains over 2,000 galaxies and spans 10 degrees of sky.
M86 is approximately 52 MY LY away, is 68 K LY in width, and contains 400 billion stars.

Other prominent galaxies in the image include M84 - centre left, and the interacting galactic pair NGC4438 and NGC4435 - bottom right, also known as Markarian’s Eyes as they are part of the Markarian Chain of Galaxies, along with both M86 and M84.
