Description

NGC 7023 was discovered in 1794 by the astronomer Herschel. It is a reflection nebula with an open star cluster of the same name.
To the left of NGC 7023 vdB 141 or “Ghost Nebula” a reflection nebula about 1,000 LY away.
On the right in the image is the “link chain” consisting of LDN 1147 to LDN 1157.
Of interest is the 1,600LJ distant GM 1-29 (Herbig-Haro 215) or Gyulbudaghian Nebula (see revision b),
which, like NGC 2261 “Hubble's Variable Nebula”, constantly changes its appearance.
GM 1-29 is an active star forming region.
