Yearly, I am drawn to capturing the breathtaking Shapley 1, a small yet brilliantly reflective planetary nebula, particularly stunning in narrow-band filters.
Each year, my aim is to improve upon my previous capture. This season, working with a larger image scale of 0.64 arcseconds/pixel and a wider aperture of 306mm (12"), the prospects were promising.

By sheer luck, while framing one of the initial frames, I noticed another extremely faint planetary nebula. In previous years, it remained invisible, undoubtedly due to the smaller apertures of the instruments I used. Inspired by the captures of planetary nebulae by other talented astrophotographers on Astrobin, who discover new nebulas during their long-exposure shots, I set out to identify what I was witnessing. It wasn't easy to find references in the commonly used deep sky object programs, but eventually, I managed to identify it in a professional catalog as PK230+01.1.

Given its extremely low surface brightness, I couldn't locate a single photo of it on Astrobin or any other amateur capture. Surely, such images must exist, but I simply hadn't come across them. What's even more fascinating is that it is situated quite close to my original target, and both were within the same field of view, making it possible to capture them together.

After 15 hours of imaging, 10 hours in Ha and 5 hours in Oiii, I present this beautiful pair, PK329+02.1 (aka Shapley 1) and PK329+01.1

Anualmente sou atraído a capturar a belíssima Shapley 1, uma nebulosa planetária pequena, porém brilhante e reflexiva, especialmente nos filtros de banda estreita. A cada ano, meu objetivo é superar minha captura anterior. Nesta temporada, estou trabalhando com uma escala de imagem maior de 0,64 arcsecs/pixel e uma abertura maior de 306mm (12"), o que aumentou as perspectivas.

Por sorte, durante a captura dos primeiros quadros, notei outra nebulosa planetária muito tênue, que nos anos anteriores não era visível, provavelmente devido à menor abertura dos instrumentos utilizados. Inspirado pelas capturas de outras excelentes astrofotografias de nebulosas planetárias no Astrobin, que descobrem novas nebulosas em longas exposições, decidi identificar o que estava vendo. Não foi fácil encontrar referências nos programas mais comuns de objetos do céu profundo, mas eventualmente consegui identificá-la em um catálogo profissional como PK230+01.1.

Certamente, devido ao seu brilho superficial extremamente baixo, não encontrei sequer uma única foto dela no Astrobin ou em qualquer outra captura amadora desse objeto. Certamente devem existir, mas simplesmente não as localizei. O mais interessante é que ela está bem próxima do meu objetivo original, e ambas podem ser capturadas juntas no meu campo de visão.

Foram 15 horas de captura, 10 horas em Ha e 5 horas em Oiii, e apresento esse belo par PK329+02.1 (também conhecido como Shapley 1) e PK329+01.1.
