Description

The Skull and Crossbones Nebula aka NGC 2467 / Sh2-311 is interesting because it is an active stellar nursery with a number of YSOs (Young Stellar Objects),  with ages ranging from 1.2 million years old to the youngest a virtual newboarn at around  only 2,000 years old!

The bright star at the center of the bowl shaped portion of the nebula (lower right) is HD 64315, an O6 star at magnitude 9.5 that belongs to the NGC 2467 open cluster, and is responsible for the ionization of this region of the nebula. The open clusters Haffner 18 and 19 are gravitationally linked as a double cluster and Wray 15-101 is a B-type star ionizing its immediate region.

Imaging note:  This is my companion shot to the wide field capture posted using my technique for capturing using mulitpe scopes and cameras on one mount concurrently.  On previous shots of using this technique,  I had been using the Askar D1/D2 filters and swapping them between the two scopes/cameras about half way through the imaging run to get a similar set of data at different scales for the target.  In this case however I didn't get the sense from my research that Sii signal was prominent, so I stayed with the D1 filter in the wide field shot for the whole run.  So for the closer look through the TEC140 in this shot,  I started with the Optolong L-Quad filter......but about half way through I though I needed more of a dual band filter's take on it (bses on what I was getting in the wide field shot) so I switched over to my older ZMO Duo dual band filter for the rest of the capture.
